This presentation by Steve Tamayo, a member of the Sicangu Lakota tribe, will explain the Dentaluim Shell adornment of the Plains Region. Commonly used by Native American artists and anthropologists, these tooth or tusk shells were and are used in indigenous jewelry and adornment. The Lakota People have been making adornments out of shells from the West Coast since the mid-1800s.
