Biography

Hey, thanks for checking my bio! My name is Falcon Restrepo-Ramos and I am an assistant professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern Languages and International Studies at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. I am from Medellín, Colombia, and I am big fan of soccer, good typical food, and Latin dancing. In 2012, I came to the United States, and I have been teaching college Spanish since then. I have been fortunate enough to be of service to a lot of students over the years and understand some of the difficulties they have in learning the language. That's why I have developed an innovative and functional application called SEÑAL that helps learners to achieve targeted second language learning skills, while improving their Spanish pronunciation, writing, and comprehension. The program will be available by Summer 2025 (check the first version here ) and uses AI technologies to support the learning experience of learners. The other part of my life as an instructor is my research. I examine issues in Hispanic sociolinguistics, L2 development, and translation with the use of Natural Language Processing technologies. You can check my work here. Some of the classes I teach involve translation, Spanish conversation and writing, Spanish pragmatics and sociolinguistics, and intro and advanced classes in linguistics and second language acquisition. Thank you again and I hope I get to meet you here at UNK!
