Alumni Success

  • "Dr. Teahon, he was a superintendent prior to me here at Gothenburg, and he just has a wonderful way of inspiring the people around him to want to be their absolute best, and I can tell you that I sat in this very office and told him that this was not a position that I thought I would ever want to do, but he saw something in me that I didn't see in myself and continued to work and inspired me to want to be what he was for our students and our staff."

    Allison Jonas

    School Superintendent Ed.S./Educational Administration Ph.D. '23

  • "I've taken a lot of classes, and a lot of times they're theory-based, which is nice, it's good to understand the theory, but I really liked that at UNK, it was immediately applicable. I could take information and I would find myself using it the next day. And so it's been helpful, and I really like that."

    Jami Allen

    Superintendent Ed.S. student

  • “UNK has always been a place I can go back to as a resource and count on professors, count on other people that I went to class with. It just didn’t end in 2011 when I got my Ed. Specialist. It’s continued on.”

    Chip Kay

    Superintendent Ed.S. 2011

  • "I was a superintendent before I had these classes and I was not prepared. I didn't even know what I didn't know. Going through the classes, working with the professors at UNK that were practicing administrators or who had practiced, they knew exactly what administrators, what superintendents needed to know. I enjoyed the classes because they were so practical and I could use the information daily."

    Nathan Lightle

    Pleasanton Public Schools Superintendent

  • "I was able to finish my specialist degree in a year and a half and there's no way possible that you could have done that in a face-to-face situation. My biggest takeaways from the program were the caring nature of our professors, the recommendations that they would send to future school and future prospective jobs. It's an excellent program, and I would encourage as many people as I could to look into a specialist degree at UNK."

    Sam Dunn

    Loomis Public Schools Superintendent
