Dr. Chelsea Feusner was born and raised in Holdrege, NE. Home of the dusters! She earned her bachelor's degree from Hastings College in music education. Dr. Feusner's teaching experience has allowed her to work with diverse schools and students, from class D to class A and preschool to postsecondary. Her teaching experience included Elm Creek, NE, Holdrege, NE, and North Platte, NE. Dr. Feusner also directed music and taught at MidPlains Community College in North Platte for a few years.
While teaching in North Platte, Nebraska, encouraged by amazing principal mentors, Dr. Feusner completed her master's program and began her career as a principal. In 2012, Feusner accepted a position to open Kearney, Nebraska's newest elementary school, Buffalo Hills Elementary. Feusner was able to orchestrate, coordinate and establish every detail of the new building. From drop-off to pick-up, she worked to anticipate and plan procedures. From day one, Feusner focused her time and attention on school climate and culture, ensuring that all students and staff felt they had a safe and supportive environment to grow. Buffalo Hills has a reputation for being positive and energetic learning and teaching environment.
Motivated to continue to learn and grow as a leader, Dr. Feusner continued her education with the join doctoral program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, graduating in 2020 from UNL with her Doctor in Education. In 2019, she transitioned to the Kearney Public Schools Central Office, where she served for three years as the Director of PK-5 Education. In her position, she led the district through the pandemic, supported early childhood expansion, adopted and implemented several high-quality curriculum materials, guided assessment, managed student services, and guided the district MTSS and school improvement process. She began teaching adjunctly for UNK in the summer of 2021. Dr. Feusner started teaching full time at UNK in 2022. Dr. Feusner's research includes topics of MTSS, Mental Health, AI in Education, Women in Leadership, and the Educator Shortage.
Dr. Feusner and her husband Jeremy have two sons, Carter and Callen. She is active in the community serving on multiple boards and volunteers regularly at their family church. Dr. Feusner was recognized as Nebraska's Young Elementary Principal of the year in 2014 and the Kearney Chamber of Commerce Working Mother of the year in 2019.
