Delivery Format: Online

TE 408P/808P, Human Relations

The University of Nebraska at Kearney offers an online Human Relations course that satisfies two requirements set by the Nebraska Department of Education for substitute teaching: the Human Relations training and a Professional Education course. Students in this online course will learn skills to guide student learning in an environment that includes diversity, personal values and heritage.

To be eligible for a Local Substitute Permit via the Nebraska Department of Education, applicants must meet all other Nebraska teaching permit requirements found in Rule 21 sections 005.01A-H and 005.25. Each issued permit will allow individuals to substitute 90 days in one school system. Individuals are allowed to hold more than one permit.

Additional  Training Opportunity

UNK also offers access to an optional online training module titled "Substitute Teaching: What You Should Know and Do" for current UNK students pursuing substitute teaching positions. This professional development opportunity serves as an introduction to substitute teaching and is designed to equip students with the expertise that is needed to meet ongoing workforce demand for qualified substitute teachers. This module does not fulfill any requirements set forth by the Nebraska Department of Education, nor does it result in a permit to serve as a substitute teacher. The module provides additional training from a pedagogical and classroom management standpoint. It is provided by the Region 4 Education Service Center in Houston, Texas.
