As part of the College of Business and Technology, the Cyber Systems Department places a strong emphasis on internships and real-world experience. Students in any Cyber Systems major may earn academic credit for internships that count toward their degree requirements. Internship opportunities are available with companies in Kearney and throughout rural Nebraska, giving students valuable hands-on experience in a variety of computing and IT settings.

In spring, Cyber Systems hosts TechFast, a career-oriented event that brings together students and industry partners. Many students find internship opportunities and future employment at this event.

In December/January, Cyber Systems hosts a competitive scholarship event, bringing together high school students from across Nebraska to compete for up to $2000 in scholarships. On this day, students are also exposed to a variety of hands-on activities in our Discovery Hall labs.
Our active Cyber Club members participate in a variety of hackathon and cybersecurity competitions like Hack Midwest and Hack K-State.
