Matt Bjornsen

Biography

Matt Bjornsen taught at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and Oklahoma State University before landing at UNK. His professional experience includes working as an auditor at Deloitte & Touche, and as an accountant at a small CPA firm. He currently holds an active CPA license in the state of Nebraska, and was previously licensed in Oklahoma. He holds membership in the American Accounting Association where he serves professionally and won an Excellence in Reviewing Award in the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section. Matt has also served as a reviewer for multiple academic journals, including the Journal of Accounting, Auditing, and Finance; the Pacific Accounting Review; and the Quarterly Journal of Finance and Accounting. His research has been published in top academic journals, including Accounting Horizons, the Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, and the Journal of International Accounting Research,and his work has been presented at regional, national, and international research conferences. He received the Best Paper Award from the Mountain Business Plains Conference, the College of Business & Technology (CBT) Outstanding Faculty Award for Scholarship, and the John Becker Faculty Incentive Fund.

How did you become interested in this subject?

After changing my major several times during my undergraduate education, I finally landed on accounting. In addition to my interest in the subject, I found it to be an extremely versatile and marketable major, given all of the doors it opens for potential career paths!

 

What do you like about teaching?

I really enjoy witnessing students learn, mature, and progress into business professionals. It is rewarding to help and interact with them during this pivotal time in their lives!
