Dr. Oravecz, more commonly known on campus as "Dr. O", was appointed Dean for the Division of Student Affairs in August, 2010. Dr. O was raised and graduated high school in Connecticut. A first-generation college student, he attended Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania where he majored in Psychology. He was awarded a Masters degree in Higher Education & Student Affairs from The Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Florida State University.
As the Senior Student Affairs Office of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Dr. Oravecz has responsibility for the following offices and departments: Academic & Career Services, Academic Success Offices (including the Disability Services for Students, Learning Commons/Writing Center, Learning Strategies, Student Support Services) , Counseling & Health Care (including Peer Health, Women’s Center), Financial Aid (including Student Employment Services, Veteran Student Services), First Year Program, Student Life (including Greek Affairs, Leadership Development, Multicultural Affairs, Student Activities, Student Conduct, Spirit program), Residence Life, and Undergraduate recruitment and admissions.
His initial position in university administration was as an admissions counselor for Mount Ida College in Newton Centre, Massachusetts, and has served in numerous positions at public and private colleges and universities on the East Coast and Mid-West: Bowling Green State University (Associate Vice President, Student Affairs); University of Bridgeport (Connecticut; Dean, Student Affairs); Syracuse University (Associate Dean); Salisbury University (MD; Director, Student Activities, Organizations, and Leadership); and, Central Michigan University (Assistant Director, Student Life).
