Health Science Scholars Program

The intent of the program is to identify academically promising students interested in health science careers that statistically have low college-going rates and offer them support and encouragement through their freshmen year in the Health Science Scholars program.  Scholars who successfully complete the Heatlh Science Scholars Program at UNK will have the opportunity at the end of their freshman year to submit a formal application to the NU Paths Program, a cooperative program with the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
*This scholarship is for incoming freshmen only.

Kearney Health Opportunities Program (KHOP)

The Kearney Health Opportunities Program (KHOP) is a cooperative program between the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) and the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). The purpose of the program is to recruit and educate students from rural Nebraska who are committed to returning to rural Nebraska to practice healthcare. This program represents a commitment and dedication to the education of Nebraskans and quality health care for citizens of the state.

Public Health Early Admissions Student Track (PHEAST)

Public health is the science and art of protecting and improving the health of communities through education, promotion of healthy lifestyles and research of disease and injury prevention.  Public health is everything from leading a healthier lifestyle to ensuring safe drinking water. Public Health creates a safer world for yourself and future generations.  The University of Nebraska Medical Center offers a Masters in Public Health in seven different areas: Biostatistics, Community Health Education, Community Oriented Primary Care, Epidemiology, Environmental and Occupational Health, Maternal and Child Health, and Public Health Administration.

The purpose of PHEAST is to create a pipeline and cadre of public health professionals who will practice in Nebraska.

*This program requires you are a Nebraska resident in the 2nd semester of your sophomore year.

NU Paths

Nebraska University Pre-Admission to Health Sciences (NU Paths) is a collaborative program developed by the University campuses.  The program was initiated to assist in alleviating the disparities in health care identified for members of underrepresented and underserved groups through the recruitment of students from these groups to the University of Nebraska for their undergraduate curricula and their health care/research professional education.
 
The purpose of NU Paths is to recruit and educate academically talented students who demonstrate, through life experiences and personal motivation, a desire to become health care professionals who are willing to serve persons in need of health care in medically underserved communities.  It is anticipated that program graduates will practice in medically underserved urban communities.
*This program requires one year of college coursework and is for upperclassmen only.
