Oversees all aspects of UNK’s marketing and communications, including media and public relations, graphic design, print and digital content production, photography, video, social media and licensing.

Full Bio

Todd Gottula is the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, bringing more than three decades of experience in academia, journalism, sports and entertainment. Since joining UNK in 2013, he has led the university’s marketing and communications strategy, strengthening its visibility across campus, the community and University of Nebraska system.

Gottula oversees media relations, brand management, crisis communication, digital strategy, creative services, social media, photography, video and print production. As the university spokesperson, he manages reputation-impacting events, guides communication policy and ensures consistent messaging.

Before UNK, Gottula held leadership roles with Tri-City Storm Hockey and Viaero Event Center, coordinating high-profile concerts and events. He also spent 17 years as an award-winning reporter, photographer and editor for the Kearney Hub and Auburn Press-Tribune.

An active community member, he has served on boards including the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce (board chair), RAE of Hope Foundation, Leadership Kearney, Kearney Works and America’s Best Communities. He holds multiple FEMA certifications and has trained with the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security.

At UNK, Gottula serves on the Chancellor’s Leadership Team, Administrative Council, Emergency Operations Team, University of Nebraska Alumni Advisory Council and NU Brand Identity Committee. He previously served on Staff Senate and the Strategic Planning Committee.

A native of Auburn, Nebraska, Gottula earned a bachelor’s degree in English with a journalism emphasis from Peru State College.
