
The UNK Cyber Operations Center serves as a hub for cybersecurity education, research, and collaboration among students, faculty, industry, and the broader cybersecurity community. The Center provides students with opportunities to develop technical and professional skills through hands-on learning, cutting-edge technologies, and an interactive laboratory environment.
The Cyber Systems Department offers a bachelor’s degree and a minor to empower cyber professionals through career-focused learning and research:
Networking and Security Lab FacilitiesThe department has a state-of-the-art mini data center located in Discovery Hall, that includes routers, switches, wireless access points, custom virtual servers for independent studies, and server clusters for faculty and students that can be used. In addition, the neighboring cyber operations lab has 24 workstations equipped with various security tools, which can easily be patched into the mini data center for countless security exercises.
Our new Industrial Control Systems (ICS) CyberLab will provide a cutting-edge research and hands-on learning environment that prepares the next generation of cybersecurity professionals with the skills needed to safeguard the nation’s critical infrastructure against evolving threats.
The dedicated faculty of the Cyber Systems department make sure that course curriculum continually evolves alongside the shifting landscape of technology and security, ensuring that students graduate with the most up to date knowledge and in-demand skill sets as possible.

The UNK Cyber Operations Center collaborates with industry partners to support students internships, professional development, and cybersecurity education. Partners include: Buckle, ESU10, Intellicom, Star Stream Labs, Buffalo County, Allo Fiber, and Peraton.
