Ladan Ghazi Saidi, Ph.D.

Education/Clinical Experience

Dr. Ghazi Saidi joined UNK in succession of a fellowship in Neuropsychology of Neurodegenerative Diseases and Neuroimaging at Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, Las Vegas, NV, and three years of post-doctoral research in Neuropsychology of Language acquisition and Bilingualism at Centre de Recherche Institute Gériatrie de Montréal, Montréal, Québec, Canada. She completed her doctorate program in Biomedical Sciences; Option: Neuropsychology in Faculty of Medicine, University of Montreal, Montreal, QC, Canada. She also has a Master’s degree in Translation Studies and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology.

Dr. Ghazi Saidi is an expert in neurocognitive processes of language, cognition and aging in bilingual and monolingual populations. She is dedicated to educating and mentoring future Speech-Language Pathologist who are lifelong learners and inclusive to diversity.


Teaching Areas

Dr. Ghazi Saidi teaches courses in Aphasia Rehabilitation, Cognitive Communication disorders, Bilingualism and Cognition, Aging and Cognition, and Research Methods in Communication disorders.


Research

Dr. Ghazi Saidi is the director of UNK Language & Cognition lab, where we conduct behavioral and neuroimaging research on Language and cognition in healthy adults and individuals with Aphasia and Dementia. We focus on adult language acquisition and disorders as well as cognitive and neuroscience aspects of language and cognition at aging. We also study the bilingual population with a focus on cognitive advantages of bilingualism as a contributing factor to cognitive reserve and prevention of neurodegenerative diseases. We are also interested in Alternative Therapies including Animal-Assisted Therapy, Music Therapy, and Cognitive Stimulation for prevention & intervention of cognitive decline and promoting healthy aging in rural/urban monolingual/bilingual population, using telepractice, neuroimaging, quantitative and mixed methods, and clinical trials. https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Ladan-Ghazi-Saidi


Professional Memberships

Dr. Ghazi Saidi is a member of Society for Neurobiology of Language (SNL), Organization of Human Brain Mapping (OHBM), Gerontology Society of America of (GSA), where she is in the leadership team of Intergenerational Approaches interest group, and a member of Rural Health interest group; The Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment (ISTAART) and a member of the interest group on Diversity, and finally International Neuropsychology Society (INS). She is also a member of Bilingual Therapies affiliated to ASHA.
