The AI Steering Committee provides strategic direction and support for the university’s AI initiatives, coordinates AI sub-committee activities, and assesses AI needs to help prioritize resources for maximum impact. The committee consists of departmental leaders and faculty.
Activities include:
- Monitoring external forces and assessing AI impacts on faculty, staff, and students, adapting direction as needed
- Establishing a governance framework and ethical guidelines for responsible use of AI, revising existing policy as needed
- Developing recommendations for new investments, partnerships, hiring strategies, and infrastructure to support AI work
This committee is responsible for overseeing the use of AI in the university’s academic programs. It is composed of faculty members and academic leaders who work to identify ways to incorporate AI into the curriculum and enhance the learning experience for students.
Key activities include:
- Developing recommendations for syllabus language for instructors
- Suggesting and sharing ways faculty could use AI in the classroom
- Identifying academic AI use cases, assessing risks, and providing guidance
- Analyzing survey data from students and instructors about their use of AI
- Examining bias in AI tools and considerations of equity in access to AI tools
AI technologies and their application will impact many areas of research on our campus. The AI Ethics & Research Committee consists of researchers and subject matter experts working to advance AI and machine learning research efforts at UNK while maintaining ethical practices. It is working to ensure consistent, long-term, and centralized AI research support to remain on the forefront of scientific progress and maintain a cutting-edge advantage to secure extramural funding.
The committee is working to fulfill needs for:
- Continued computational support for AI research
- Continued educational short courses and workshops
- Continued program of pilot projects to yield competitive AI-related grant proposals
- Continued program of experiential learning in AI research
- Continued program of ethical use of AI
The OneIT AI Committee is responsible for overseeing the implementation and integration of AI technologies within the organization's IT infrastructure. Composed of IT leaders and experts, this committee identifies opportunities to leverage AI to improve the organization's IT operations, enhance cybersecurity, and drive innovation. The committee is also responsible for ensuring that the organization's AI initiatives align with its overall IT strategy and goals.
Activities include:
- Exploring new AI solutions
- Identifying and sharing AI use cases
- Working with other AI subcommittees to develop and communicate AI guidance
- Creating a curated list of resources for learning about AI
- Making AI tools available to campus and training users
- Developing AI liaisons program to provide local support for AI questions
