Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Technology First Edition

The Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Technology, the only journal of its kind produced by the University of Nebraska system, released the inaugural issue on July 1, 2020. Dr. Sri Seshadri and Dr. Larry Carstenson, editor and associate editor respectively, are faculty in the University of Nebraska Business Division in the College of Business and Technology.

CBT Dean Dr. Tim Jares states, “ We look forward to providing a high quality, digital open-source outlet for application and pedagogy in business and technology disciplines.”

The journal has experienced many changes in recent years. Now hosted by UNK, the journal was published under a different name, the Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Economics, and hosted by Southern Utah University for the last 20 years. In 2018, Dr. Seshadri and Dr. Carstenson petitioned to bring the journal to UNK, securing it in 2019.

“The journal publishes original scholarly research, conceptual and empirical papers, industry notes, invited essays, case studies, and book reviews that are of interest to academics or practitioners,” Dr. Seshadri elaborated.

Each issue of the journal will be based around a chosen theme and will publish on a bi-annual basis. The July edition will focus on leadership, complete with an essay by UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen. The anticipated themes going forward for the 20-21 academic year are technology for December 2020, with tentative plans for entrepreneurship and business ethics in subsequent publications.

This journal is currently open for submissions for the next issue, with primary authors typically being academic faculty in higher education. Invited content from prominent people in the industry will be included as well. The call is open focusing on technology and is due to be published on December 15.

An open call for submissions for the next issue has been announced, inviting papers specifically in areas of cyber-security issues, privacy protections, ransomware, cloud computing, telecommunications, pedagogy, and other related topics.
