The Center for Entrepreneurship and Rural Development hosted the Big Idea Kearney business idea competition at Cunningham's on the Lake on Wednesday, November 6th. This annual event had over 70 idea submissions with 16 finalists selected in the college and community categories. There were approximately 150 people in attendance for this event and most voted for the top prize winners after the judges selected the top five.

This year, UNK student, Nichole Mittman took home the top college prize of $1000 for her Glow in the Dark Paintings and Jonah Staab won first prize for the community division pitching his product development company, Qualitech. This is the second time Staab has won Big Idea Kearney. His idea for Sidewinder Skateboard wheels won in 2016.
