Dr. Brenda Eschenbrenner was recognized on August 23rd with the prestigious Pratt-Heins Faculty Award for her excellence in teaching, service, scholarship and research. This award has been presented annually for the past 38 years. Eschenbrenner is an associate professor in the department of accounting and finance. She joined UNK in 2010.
Dr. Eschenbrenner was on sabbatical during the spring 2019 semester. During her sabbatical, she engaged in a research project which focused on identifying pivotal factors contributing to the effective usage of big data analytics. In particular, she focused on the healthcare industry which has vast opportunities to leverage big data analytics to gain new insights into reducing costs and, most importantly, improving quality of care and patient outcomes. Therefore, her project involved data analysts in the healthcare industry as part of her data collection process. The project resulted in a conference paper accepted and presented this summer at the 21 st International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, and she has plans to use the feedback to revise and submit the manuscript for publication. She also completed revisions on another manuscript with her co-authors which has been accepted for publication. In addition, she visited Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, and Missouri University of Science & Technology. Her visit entailed attending research seminars, collaborating with other researchers, and presenting her own research.
