Starting this fall, professionals in the fields of athletics, sports administration and recreation will have the opportunity to advance in their careers with the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s online or blended M.A.Ed. in General Kinesiology and Sport Sciences.

The following program specialization options are available:

The Coaching Specialization will equip students with effective coaching methods and techniques to deliver appropriate and safe practice environments for athletes of all ages. This specialization is designed for aspiring and current professionals in the field of sports coaching and courses will be offered in a fully online format.

The Sports Administration Specialization combines sport sciences knowledge with business expertise to empower students to excel in the sports industry. Coursework will equip students with the skills they need to lead and manage within a sports organization or athletic program. This specialization is designed for aspiring and current professionals in sports administration and it is offered in a blended, or mostly online, format.

An optional thesis, applied projects and internships are available in both specialization areas. Dr. Nita Unruh, UNK Kinesiology and Sport Science Department Chair and Professor, said these tailored opportunities will allow students to “…garner experiential learning in the areas of marketing, facilities and management.”

Students can expect to earn their degree in as little as two years, depending on the number of credit hours completed per semester. Program graduates will be prepared to excel in areas such as compliance, marketing, facilities operations, collegiate sports, and tickets.
