The national organization, Council for Economic Education (CEE), has announced that the Nebraska Council on Economic Education is the 2019 Council for Economic Education State Council of the Year. Each year the award recognizes a CEE affiliate for their significant accomplishments, demonstrated best practices, and outstanding service in the state. There are five centers in Nebraska, with one located at UNK in the College of Business and Technology. The UNK Center this past year advocated the importance of economics and personal finance for education, as well as hosted events that students, teachers, and community members participated in. This fall, the UNK Center will also be expanding its outreach to host a professional development workshop called Financial Fitness for Life for teachers to learn more about curriculum for their classroom and best practices for different lesson topics.

With the selection of this award, it will help grow the support and funding of the council and each of the centers to continue to share resources and tools with students and teachers on economics and financial literacy at the state level. The goal of the UNK Center is to continue to provide more educational and training programs for teachers in the 2019-2020 school year, and to spark the interest in economic concepts for students to become well-informed consumers and producers.
