Youth Opportunities

The Kearney Symphony Orchestra helps provide three opportunities for talented young performers.

For aspiring musicians, students in grades 3-12 have the opportunity to study violin, viola, cello or double bass with UNK String Project Director Dr. Noah Rogoff, an opportunity made possible through the National String Project. UNK is one of only 32 colleges and universities in the nation selected for inclusion in the project, and the only campus in Nebraska. Accomplished musicians at the collegiate level can compete for membership in the Thornton String Quartet, the UNK scholarship chamber ensemble. Students selected for membership in the elite chamber ensemble are each awarded $3,000 scholarships, $1,500 each semester.
