Leading a study abroad program is a great way to for your students to engage with subject matter on a deeper, experiential level, increase their intercultural competence, and support your professional global engagement. UNK Study Abroad is here to help you conceptualize, plan, and execute your program.

Planning is Key

Creating a study abroad program requires careful planning. If you are interested and up for the challenge of leading an international education experience, you should begin working with UNK Study Abroad well in advance of your desired program date. This allows for sufficient time to finalize all aspects of the programs and ensure its success.

Faculty leaders will have to take on certain responsibilities in addition to teaching and curriculum development, including:

  • Coordinating plans with overseas institutions and other UNK departments
  • Recruiting student participants for the program
  • Managing allocated funds for the program
  • Supervising students during the program

UNK Study Abroad is Here to Help

The UNK Study Abroad Office will support you during the entire process, from conceptualization to successful return, including:

  • Program development support
  • Budgeting & setting the program fee, including internal approval process
  • Helping with reservations or selecting a third-party provider/partner for on-site services
  • Fox Travel can purchase group plane tickets and arrange hotels and ground transportation. Additional fees apply. 
  • Marketing (web, digital, & print)
  • Student application process
  • Student orientation topics, resources, & support
  • Health, safety, and risk management training and planning
    • Navigating the Higher Risk International Travel process
    • Manage student international travel insurance (AIG Insurance Required $1.50/day; Faculty/staff are automatically covered at no additional cost)
    • Study Abroad fee ($100) supports application and risk management platforms (Terra Dotta and World Aware/24).
