First Forward Recognition BadgeDid you know that 4 in 10 UNK students are first generation? A first generation student is one whose parents have not completed a bachelor's degree. It can be daunting for first-gen students to navigate their way in higher education, but we are here to support you. Many UNK faculty and staff were also among the first in their families to complete a degree.

Together let's break down boundaries, help you connect and thrive on campus, and finish your degree to launch a successful career.

First-Gen Trailblazer Academy

The First Gen Trailblazer Academy is a week-long practice run before fall classes start for first-generation college students. It is designed to get students off to the best possible start and boost their confidence as they transition to college.

Cristina Prado

As a first-generation student, I was looking for guidance on how to navigate my undergraduate career and I wanted to connect more with my culture. By joining Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc., a multicultural sorority at UNK, I was able to surround myself with strong Latina women and build a strong support network that has helped me throughout the last four years.
