About the Psychology Degree Program

On Campus Online

Psychology is the scientific investigation of behavior and mental processes. A Psychology degree provides a solid foundation for understanding this discipline and illuminates some of life’s most important questions, providing us with a rich understanding of social influence, learning, human intelligence, the roots of personality, the effects of stress on health, and a myriad of other topics.

Courses from experimental, social, developmental, and clinical psychology assure well-balanced coverage of the entire field. Students are encouraged to explore their own interests in various areas of specialization including environmental psychology, psychology of gender, drugs and human behavior, and the psychology of criminal behavior.

Practical experience is a pillar of the Psychology program at UNK, where opportunities for apprenticeships, internships, a practicum, and even funded research are available to students, opening up strong career options and positioning them well for acceptance into graduate study programs.

Behavioral Health Opportunities Program

BHOP is a pathway program that recruits and supports undergraduate and graduate students seeking licensed behavioral health careers in Nebraska. Starting in the senior year of their undergraduate program, students accepted into BHOP receive tuition support, mentorship and join a cohort of other scholars that partake in coordinated social and learning opportunities. Learn More about the program.

"You can truly tell the professors in the psychology department are passionate about what they are teaching and they love their profession.” “I feel as though I can walk into their office whether I have a question about class, my future, or just life in general. My favorite part of this program is the faculty and staff who serve as the heart of the psychology department."
