The athletic training program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney is committed to offering students various educational experiences while preparing them for an evolving field. Athletic training professionals are trained to manage the overall health care of interscholastic, intercollegiate, professional, and recreational athletes.

The accelerated 3+2 athletic training academic sequence comprises a 5-year combined course sequence for undergraduate and graduate students. During the 4th year, students will take undergraduate courses and 1st year Master of Athletic Training courses, which require them to complete the bachelor’s degree prior to the 2nd year Master of Athletic Training. To be eligible to pursue such an academic sequence, the following major/minor are recommended but not limited to:

The accelerated 3+2 athletic training academic sequence gives students great academic and hands-on clinical experience. This will provide the eligibility to challenge the Board of Certification (BOC) examination at the completion of the Master of Athletic Training.

* The accelerated 3+2 athletic training academic sequence does not guarantee acceptance to the Master of Athletic Training in the fourth year. All students must undergo the Master of Athletic Training admission process to pursue the graduate degree.

The athletic training program is developed around the standards implemented by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Through this program, students can gain practical field and clinical experiences within the UNK Athletic Department and at one of the many off-campus clinics or high school internship sites.

Micah Stall
"I graduated from UNK in May 2017. I am currently a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the University of Central Oklahoma and work primarily with the women’s softball program. Making the decision to be a part of the Athletic Training major at UNK has helped me in my career today. Not only did I receive great hands-on learning experience in the classroom, but I also had the opportunity to work directly with UNK’s Division II student-athletes. The experience and knowledge I gained during my time at UNK and with the major has set me up for great future in athletic training and an opportunity I will cherish for a lifetime."
