About the History 7-12 Teaching Field Endorsement Degree Program

On Campus

The Department of History at the University of Nebraska at Kearney gives students a working knowledge of past events, people, ideas and values in the United States and in other parts of the world. Students at UNK will gain an understanding of contemporary society from a historical perspective that includes multi-cultural and global contexts. The history department’s courses prepare students for a variety of careers from graduate school to teaching.

UNK’s teacher education programs offer an unmatched reputation and legacy that our graduates take with them to their schools and throughout their careers. Each member of our faculty teaches courses at all levels from freshman surveys through graduate seminars. Many have won awards that recognize the high quality of their scholarship, teaching and service.

Those interested in becoming teachers in Nebraska must first be admitted to a Nebraska approved educator preparation program. The Praxis® Core Academic Skills for Educators tests are the approved Basic Skills test for program admission. Passing scores must be achieved in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

Kalee Reams

“UNK gives me a sense of home through the people who work here. From the very beginning, I felt a personal connection to the campus and felt like I truly mattered to faculty. I call UNK home now because I can’t walk through campus without saying hello to someone!”
