About the Department

Award-Winning Teaching. Ground-Breaking Research. Tools for the Future.

At UNK's History Department, you can choose from four undergraduate degree programs, with six options for minors. Multiple programs can be completed entirely online, including a bachelor's degree. Some of our areas of study include the history of science and medicine, history education, and public history.

The public history minor lets you explore the creation and dissemination of history by and for public audiences, such as Public History, Museums and Archives, Public History Administration, Digital History, and Community History and Preservation.

If you’re looking for a Master’s degree program, our online program is ranked as one of the best. Students can choose to complete the non-thesis, thesis, or public history options.

Daniel Feickert

"I think that teachers can have a great impact on a person’s life and I hope to be a positive influence on my students every day. I think that UNK truly prepared me for life beyond college. The things I learned in the classroom helped me prepare for my career, and the life experiences I had in Kearney helped me prepare to become a responsible adult."
