Residential Learning Community for Health Sciences

The Health Science Explorers and Area Health Education Center Logos UNK Health Sciences, in partnership with the Central Nebraska Area Health Education Center (AHEC), is pleased to offer a one-year residential Learning Community opportunity for students interested in health care careers.

A living-learning community is an environment where students with similar interests, scholarships, or majors live on a dedicated floor in a residence hall. Students involved build strong friendships and campus connections that help them find success in all areas of college life.

Benefits of the Health Science Explorers program:

Living-Learning Community: Fifty students will be given the opportunity to participate in this unique living-learning experience in Centennial Towers West (CTW) at UNK.

Health Career Services: Students will enroll in HSCI 130 – Opportunities in Health Sciences for one credit hour in the fall semester that will allow them to explore health careers, network with health professionals, and have shadowing opportunities.

Mentoring: Students will also be assigned to an upperclassman health science student that lives in the community and serves as a mentor. Students will participate in weekly meetings with their mentoring group.

Academic and Professional Development: The curriculum is designed to provide students with the tools and skills to succeed in college as well as professional development experiences.

Scholarship: All students in the Health Science Explorers Learning Community will receive a partial room scholarship.

"I belong in the Health Science Explorer’s Community because everyone is kind, welcoming and shares a love for health sciences. I love walking to class and running into people that are involved in the same Community. It helps me realize how connected this campus is."
