About the English Degree Program

On Campus

While pursuing an English degree, you will examine the deepest roots of language and note its features, characteristics, and changes throughout time. You will study the context and content of written and oral works such as pieces of prose and poetry, commentaries and speeches, and plays and films, discovering truths and commonalities within those eras. This program is ideal for students who enjoy literature, writing, and learning through spirited discussions.

English majors are able to organize thoughts and ideas and present them in a clear and effective way, making the degree highly valuable in professional settings. UNK English graduates have gone on to become teachers, writers, editors, and scholars, while others have entered careers in business, law, medicine, government, and the arts.

Students at the University of Nebraska at Kearney learn under award-winning faculty members who mentor, offer insight, and encourage scholarship and creativity. Students are also encouraged to grow outside the classroom through visiting artists and lecturers, workshops, national competitions, conferences, and student publications.
