A Message from the Dean

Dean of Student Affairs Gilbert Hinga with Louie at Move in

Welcome to the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. It is an exciting time to be a UNK Loper.

The staff in the Division are responsible for many of the co-curricular components of the student experience at UNK. Much of what you learn in college comes from your experiences outside the classroom. We provide quality services, programs, and facilities to help enrich your classroom experiences. Our priority is to help you be academically, socially, mentally, and physically successful while you are here—and to help you develop some skills that you will need after you graduate.

The Division of Student Affairs at UNK is comprised of eight functional departments encompassing the following:  Academic Success Office, Campus Recreation, Learning Commons, Residence Life, Student Conduct, Student Diversity and Inclusion, Student Engagement, Student Health and Counseling.

One of the most important things you can do to succeed is to take advantage of all the opportunities we offer here at UNK. Live on campus. Cheer on the Lopers at a sporting event. Join a fraternity or sorority or one of more than 200 student organizations on campus. Attend a lecture, a concert, a theatre production, or one of our annual events such as Blue & Gold Welcome Week or Homecoming. Volunteer in the Kearney community. Participate in a club sport or intramural. Opportunities abound. The more you engage in your collegiate experience, the more you will get out of it. If you can’t find what you are looking for on our website, please contact us at studentaffairs@unk.edu.

If there is anything that we can do to make your experience at UNK better, please let us know.
