Program Overview

The University of Nebraska-Kearney, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Nebraska-Omaha, and Wayne State College compose a Nebraska Consortium which created the Nebraska Semester Abroad program in 1992. The purpose of the program was to offer all students the possibility to study abroad in a program led by a Nebraska professor and taught by professors from the hosting institution. The location, Olomouc, Czech Republic, was selected because of the great difference between cultures.


Location and Housing:

  • Students will be housed in student residence halls.


  • Priority Application Deadlines:
    • Fall Semester: Mid-September - December
    • Spring Semester: Mid-March - End of May

Cost: $7,175 (Fall 2019/Spring 2020 pricing)

  • Includes:
    • $250 application fee (due at application deadline)
    • $400 security deposit (due at application deadline)
    • $6775 program fee (includes 12 credits of UNK tuition and fees (based on Undergraduate Resident rate) on-site and fieldtrip housing, international health insurance, local transportation, course materials)

  • International Studies Institute (INTS 445) - 3 credit hours
  • International Studies Seminar (INTS 300)- 3 credit hours
  • Introduction to Czech (FORL 110) - 3 credit hours
  • Special Topics (INTS 480) - 3 credit hours

Credit Transfer:

All students will register through the University of Nebraska at Kearney for a minimum of twelve credit hours (listed above). All students without a NUID, will have to apply to UNK as a non-degree seeking student through the Office of Admissions (308-865-8702) to obtain their NUID. Credits may be applied toward degree at the students' home campus through the transfer process. Coursework will make full use of location and surroundings. 

Application Process:

  • Application Contents as displayed in your 'Lopers-Abroad Portal'. In order for UNK students to obtain a portal, they must Schedule an Advising Appointment.
  • Security Deposit and Application Fee are non-refundable unless the program is canceled.


  • Fall Semester: Second Friday in February
  • Spring Semester: Last Friday in September
  • 24 applications can be accepted.


  • This program is open to all UNK students with a 2.5 GPA or higher.
