Through the intimate and expressive medium of micro opera, SALT gives voice to the strength, spice, and preservation passed down by our female ancestors. Rooted in their mission to share, affirm, lift, and tell, the ensemble brings together newly commissioned works by composers Rachel DeVore Fogarty, Lisa Neher, and Forrest Pierce, alongside a choral piece by Emily Feld and a piano solo by Jeeyoung Kim.
This heartfelt performance invites us to listen deeply, reflect together, and celebrate the many ways motherhood and womanhood shape our collective narrative. Whether you come for the music, the message, or the shared community, this event promises to inspire and uplift.
The SALT quintet is five professor-musicians: Dr. Sylvia Stoner-Hawkins, soprano (Skidmore College), Dr. Suna Gunther, soprano (UNL), Dr. Jennifer Townsley, soprano (UNO), and Dr. Young Kim, piano (Skidmore College). These performers will be joined by a quartet of students from the University of Nebraska campuses that functions as a “Greek Chorus” that ties the larger works together. The student quartet members are Adrienne Parker, UNK junior, Ewing, Nebraska; Yizhou Zhao, UNL graduate student, Shaoxing, China; Zoey Smallwood, UNK, sophomore, Fremont, Nebraska; Kayelynn Lawson, UNL, graduate student, Escondido, California
