Details:

Join us this coming Friday (Jan 19) at 7 PM at the UNK Planetarium to learn about colliding galaxies and the most voracious supermassive black holes in the universe. The shows are free, public, and appropriate for all ages. Planetarium doors will open at 6:30 PM and seating is on first-come, first-served basis.

Abstract: Galaxies come in various shapes, yet they evolve and can be reshaped by violent collisions. Supermassive black holes lurk at the centers of most galaxies in the Universe, and might play a major role in their fate. These objects are so elusive, despite their enormous masses, yet so powerful when fueled by gas from their close vicinity. Come to learn about black holes and how do we find them; how are the most powerful active galaxies in the Universe, the quasars, related to inactive galaxies like the Milky Way; and how are quasars relevant to your life. Short Planetarium show and a talk for all ages.
