In 2014, Dr. Greg Benson took over the direction of the Supply Chain Management for UNK. The Supply Chain Management Program at UNK was the first of its kind in the NU System and one of the first in the nation. He has grown the program to almost 70 students strong. Nebraska has a great deal of job demand for purchasing managers, logistics managers and distribution managers in the companies located in the state. Therefore, in 2010, UNK saw a need to offer a program that would prepare these professionals for the work place.
The program has become very popular and rightly so. Dr. Benson works with area employers to arrange experiential learning opportunities, outside of the class lessons and also works in the College of Business and Technology to identify and secure valuable internship experiences for students. The partnerships with area industry, including Cash-Wa Distributing, GIX Logistics, The Buckle, Baldwin Filters, Walmart and others, are incredibly important to the program.
Not only does Greg Benson lead the Supply Chain Management (SCM) program at UNK, but he is also an award-winning educator. Before coming to teach at UNK, he had twenty years of experience as a procurement manager for the Eaton Corporation.
Like other programs at UNK, internships are required of all SCM students. Often, these internships turn into full-time employment, which is a win for both the companies and students. The partnerships with these companies are vital for the success of the program. Benson and the rest of the team at UNK have worked very hard to bring the industry leaders in and consider all opinions and suggestions for making the program a success.
