Being a first-time student in an online course or program can be nerve-racking. Having online resources to help keep you focused and ensure you are doing things correctly is the key to success in an online learning environment. At the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), online students have access to the following resources:
SmarterMeasure – Wondering if you are ready for an online program or course? SmarterMeasure is an online tool that will help students evaluate their likelihood for succeeding in an online course or program. It helps assess skills such as motivation, time management, reading rate and recall, computer knowledge and skills, and typing speed and accuracy.
Hoonuit – Formerly known as Atomic Learning, Hoonuit gives students access to over 50,000 tutorials on over 205 applications. With 24/7 access, desktop and mobile compatibility, you can learn at your own pace and on your own time, no matter when you have questions. Find tutorials for Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, or even how to write papers in APA or MLA format.
VoiceThread – VoiceThread is commonly used in UNK online courses, which is why you’ll need to understand the basics of this easy-to-use resource. VoiceThread allows users to place media including images, videos, documents, and presentations in an asynchronous conversation. It allows students to have conversations and make comments in five ways: voice, text, audio, file, or video. VoiceThread runs inside the web browser so there is nothing to install or update.
Technology Helpdesk – Technology sometimes can be intimidating, especially as a new online student. UNK’s Technology Helpdesk offers 24/7 answers to your technology questions. They are also there to help you troubleshoot issues any time they arise.
Library Resources – Studying at a distance can be hard without a nearby library. Take advantage of UNK’s Calvin T. Ryan Library, which offers online resources such as interlibrary loan or document delivery to have library resources sent directly to you. You’ll also have access to research databases and tutorials on how to conduct credible research. If you get stuck or have a question, you can chat, text, call, or e-mail a librarian.
Whether you’re on campus or across the country, UNK supports and guides students to ensure success in reaching educational goals. Through informational and technology services, we assist you from preparing for your first course all the way to graduation. Get started in an online course or program with UNK eCampus.
