Kate Bombeck photoKate Bombeck’s education and career in business have brought her full circle back to the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK).

A Kearneyite, Bombeck always knew she would attend college at UNK. After completing an undergraduate degree in finance and a Master of Business Administration, she set out for her industry career.

“I worked in industry for about seven years, but the travel just consumed me,” Bombeck said. “I started looking for other jobs and stumbled upon a position at UNK. I thought, ‘this is perfect. It’s meeting with people and it’s still in the field of business. It’s just a perfect fit.’”

Bombeck has reached a year milestone as coordinator of the online Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) program after serving in another business position at UNK. Her expertise helps direct program offerings that prepare students to meet industry demands. It also connects her with the needs of busy adult students in online courses.

“I understand what it’s like to be working full time, have a family, and I can appreciate that sometimes life just happens,” she said. “I feel like I’ve been there in the trenches, and I can really relate to them.”

One way Bombeck helps online students is through individualized attention to figure out the courses that will work for their schedule and their future career.

“Everyone who is interested and admitted to the online BSBA program has a different set of circumstances,” she said. “Some have started college and didn’t finish, some have an associate degree, or maybe they don’t have any secondary education but need a bachelor’s degree to be considered for a promotion. I take a good look at what a student’s goals are, and then I make sure they’re taking classes that will help them the most.”
