Students at computerIf you recently attended educational related conferences and professional development, you have heard of 21st century education. This educational framework was developed by classroom teachers, education experts and business leaders to conceptualize the skills and knowledge that today’s learners need to be able to function, live and contribute in the fast paced world we are experiencing today. Learning and innovation are becoming the skills that separate students who are prepared for life complexities and work environments that don’t even yet exist, and those who are not. The 21st century framework has inspired Teacher Education programs across the US to focus on providing teacher candidates with the tools and experiences that will allow them to be confident and innovators in their own 21st century classrooms.

UNK Teacher Education candidates are exploring and learning about the latest trends in education such as Chromebooks and Google Apps for Education, flipped learning, digital citizenship, mobile learning with iPads, collaboration approaches to learning, ePortfolio development for professional growth and reflection, and more. The sky is the limit with the tools we have available at our fingertips. This is indeed a great time to be a teacher!
