The Honors Program has two application deadlines: November 15 and February 10.

Omaha World Herald/Kearney Hub Scholarship

Nebraska applicants with an ACT of 30 or higher, and a high school grade point average of at least 3.85, are eligible to apply for the Omaha World Herald/Kearney Hub scholarship. This is UNK’s most prestigious scholarship, which pays tuition, books, room, board, and university fees for four years. This application must be submitted by November 15. About 40 students will be invited to campus for interviews in early December. In addition to the Omaha World Herald/Kearney Hub scholarship, other scholarships may be awarded to students who participate in interviews.

Holistic Review & Automatic Admission

To be considered for admittance to the Honors Program, all high school seniors must apply by February 10.

  • High School seniors with a grade point average of 3.85 or higher and an ACT of at least 30 will be automatically admitted to the Honors Program.
    •  If you have already applied for the Omaha World Herald Scholarship and met the requirements, you are automatically admitted to the Honors Program
  • High School seniors with a grade point average of 3.75 or higher and an ACT of at least 23 will be considered under a holistic review process.

The holistic review process will emphasize leadership, community engagement, perseverance, and talent. These items should be emphasized in the application. Approximately 100 total students will be accepted into the Honors Program. Notification of admittance to the Honors Program will occur by the end of February, at the latest.

For both deadlines, the process is the same. The first step is to apply and be admitted to UNK. Then the student should complete the application to the Honors program. This application (along with a letter of reference) constitutes your scholarship application. You may also email a high school transcript and a resume for your application file.
