Teach special education in elementary schools
Learn the instructional and assessment strategies to effectively teach elementary school students with unique learning needs. This online endorsement is designed for teachers who do not currently have an endorsement in Special Education but who want to earn the endorsement with a focus on special education in grades K-6.
The program meets the endorsement requirements for certification in the state of Nebraska. Students pursuing certification in other states must check with their State Department of Education for certification requirements.
Those who have a bachelor’s degree in a major other than education can pursue an initial teaching certificate in special education K-6 online. In addition to the K-6 special education program coursework, you will also need to complete the professional sequence courses.
Prerequisites: Teacher certification in any discipline (initial teaching certification may be obtained through this program with the completion of additional courses)
Curriculum
Up to 17 credit hours of additional coursework in literacy, math, and working with families may be required.
