About the Art History Degree Program

On Campus

With an Art History degree, you'll investigate art from the past to the present and analyze these works within their stylistic, cultural, historical, and social contexts. Throughout the program, you'll be equipped to explore the chronology, meaning, function, and effect of individual works, and graduate ready to carry those skills into your career.

At the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Art History students benefit from a wide range of upper-level courses, studying periods from the Renaissance to Late Modern. Through classroom lectures, discussions, assigned projects, and papers, you will learn to interpret visual art using a variety of methodologies and contextual frameworks grounded in a critical understanding of the Western tradition and will acquire an awareness and appreciation of cultural heritage.

UNK's Art faculty bring a deep understanding of the artistic process and a wide breadth of expertise in the study of art history. These faculty members are dedicated to fostering creative, collaborative classroom spaces that nurture, engage, and challenge students.
