Dr. Julie Shaffer has a solid record of leadership from the last 24 years at UNK in the Biology Department. In her current position as interim Senior Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, she has been working for the benefit of the campus during significant budget challenges. Her vision for UNK is to focus on the personal student connections that make UNK successful.

Dr. Florenz Plassmann

Florenz Plassmann is professor of economics and political science at Ohio University, where he served as Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences from 2019 to 2022. From 1999 to 2019, he was a faculty member in the departments of economics and political science at Binghamton University, where he also served as chair of the Economics Department and as Associate Dean of Harpur College of Arts & Sciences. Dr Plassmann has been a program director of the economics program at the National Science Foundation as well as a visiting resident scholar at the International Monetary Fund. In addition, he is a recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and a past associate editor of the journal Economics Bulletin.

Dr. Alyssa Kiesow

Alyssa Kiesow, Ph.D., serves as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (College) and director of sponsored projects at Northern State University. As dean, her work is centered on the liberal arts mission. Previously, she was the associate dean for the College and chair of the Department of Science and Mathematics. Kiesow remains a tenured professor with research in genetics and STEM equity. She promotes research and economic development through her role as director of sponsored projects. Kiesow received her A.A. in liberal arts from Winona State University, B.S. and M.S. in biology from South Dakota State University, and Ph.D. in biology from the University of South Dakota.
