UNK on the Web

The University of Nebraska Kearney  website is a constantly evolving and expanding resource. It provides resources for current and prospective students, faculty, staff, alumni, and more. Our web site changes constantly throughout the day, 365 days throughout the year. There are editors for every department and college, totaling over 300.

Design and Deployment

The UNK website was designed by Malcolm Grear Designers using the collaborative efforts of University Relations, the UNK Marketing Team, and the UNKWeb Task Force. Based on feedback from several focus groups involving current students, prospective students, faculty, staff and alumni, we came up with a design that would be well received amongst the many visitors of the site. Once a design was decided and set, UNK Web Development staff converted the design from standard images into a web page using CSS and HTML.

Once the design was converted, it was up to our web development staff to place the design around an existing Content Management System (CMS) called Ektron. This CMS provides our online editors the ability to make content changes while not requiring standard knowledge of web languages. This transition was difficult, but worthwhile. Today, our site has over 17000 pages of content and it  grows every day.

Our website was intentionally designed to provide a portal, or point of access to every visitor on our site. No matter the category you fit in, there should be accessable links for you on every page. The pages found here are a resource for those helping to maintain the UNK website or for those that have questions about some aspect of the process. If you still have questions about an aspect of the website after browsing the information here, please use the Comments/Questions form  to contact the UNK webmaster.
