The Thompson Scholars Learning Community (TSLC) is a shared living, learning, and mentorship experience for students who received the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation Scholarship at the University of Nebraska Kearney. The Thompson Scholars Learning Communities were initiated in 2008 by the Susan Thompson Buffett at UNK, UNO, and UNL and were named in honor of William H. Thompson, the father of Susan Thompson Buffett. The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation selects students as scholarship recipients annually; the students who choose to attend UNK become known as Thompson Scholars.
The Thompson Scholars Learning Community works to support & enhance the college experience of these students. Our vision is to help Thompson Scholars live, learn, connect, and succeed at UNK. While the Thompson Scholars Learning Community Program focuses predominantly on freshmen who share their living and learning experience, the TSLC Program also serves UNK sophomores, juniors, and seniors who receive the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation Scholarship. The TSLC Staff provides support and resources to students so that they can achieve academic success, engage in campus life, and graduate from college. Outside of the TSLC Program, all Thompson Scholars are also invited to participate in the student-led group Thompson Scholars United (TSU) which helps all Thompson Scholars stay connected at UNK.
