I am honored to step into this role as the Student Body President and Student Regent of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and I eagerly anticipate a year of positive change in a forward direction. Ivy Prater, our Student Body Vice President, and I campaigned under the slogan “Making UNK the best place to be as student”, and our platform agenda is centered at the route of that slogan. Our goal is to strive towards improving our campus to be the best place for our main stakeholders (our students) to truly live up to our University’s motto as “Difference Makers”.

In the spirit of improvement, it is fitting to discuss our intentions for the upcoming year. Our University will be experiencing a Student Union that is better suited for bringing students together in an exciting new atmosphere. Plans for renovation are currently underway, and I am enthusiastic about the progress that will be made in the near future. Additionally, we are excited to continue working towards the modernization of the Calvin T. Ryan Library, a building that is a focal point for students on this campus. These forward-thinking improvements to the library, which include implementing more modern, atheistically pleasing furniture, innovative new study rooms and design layouts, and a potential coffee shop will allow our students to engage in academic learning and research like never before. Other items on our platform include improving communication regarding our new meal plan, addressing and simplifying parking, as well as supporting surveys and forums in order to address the needs and concerns of our students regarding important planning for renovations taking place to the Union, Library, and Otto Olsen. Despite our current financial challenges facing our University System, I am optimistic about achieving success through our agenda that I know will make UNK the best place to be as a student.

I look forward to working alongside our student body in order to address any concerns that may arise during our term, and I am enthusiastic about Ivy and I’s exciting new journey towards continued success here at UNK. We have great ambitions for our term, and we are confident to say we are embarking on this journey with an outstanding group of students who all share a passionate mindset for UNK. Welcome to the UNK family, and I look forward to seeing you around campus. GO LOPERS!
