America Reads Tutoring Program

Reading Tutors

Position Description: America Reads Tutoring program is seeking work-study students to work in one of Kearney’s 11 elementary schools to assist children with reading and math skills.  Duties will differ depending upon the needs of the school and hours that student is available to work

Additional Information: Must possess good reading skills and work well with children. Some tutoring or other experience working with youth is preferred. HIGH LEVEL OF COMMITMENT IS REQUIRED!!

Hours/Wages: Approximately 5-10 hours per week.  Starting wage is $7.25 per hour

Arc of Buffalo County

Recreation Aide

Position Description: Recreation aides will be assigned several adult males and females with developmental disabilities, taking them to community events and helping them to participate in individual and group activities. Providing transportation is essential. Aides will also help with year round Arc activities, such as Buddy Bowling (Wednesdays, 3:30-5:15 pm), Saturday Crafts (twice a month from 10-11:30 am), Respite at KidZone Children's Museum for children with disabilities (first Thursday of each month from 6-8 pm), Arc at the YMCA (Fridays 6:15-8:15 pm), holiday dances, Honey Sunday fundraiser (all day, Sunday, November 2nd, 2014), some after school activities, etc. Occasional clerical duties will also be assigned.

Additional Information: Must work well with people, especially adult men, with developmental disabilities. Be available for the Arc activities listed above - generally between 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and some daytime hours on weekends. Candidate must have a safe, reliable car, proof of car insurance, and excellent driving record.

Hours/Wages:  Approximately 10 -15 hours per week. Starting wage is $8.00 per hour.

Tour Guide

Pposition Description: Give complete tours to visitors through our 6 historic, turn-of-the-century buildings and the train. During down time, buildings need dusted and swept, displays may need switched out or touched up, weeds may need pulled, the archive department may need help with organizing and filing papers and normal office assistance. Position available Memorial Day through Labor Day only. Mon-Sat 10-6; Sun 1-5

Position Description: Give tours as needed. Assist guests in gift shop, help organize and file for the archive department, assist director with event planning, tracking inventory, dusting and sweeping the buildings, and other day-to-day activities. Position available Mon-Fri, 1:00 to 5:00 - depending on student's schedule.

WIC Office Assistant

Position Description: Individual will be responsible for phone calls, intakes, making appointments, mass mailings, mass stamping and filing, assisting clients, and prepping for clinics.  May also assist at Kearney WIC clinic and duties may expand to printing and voiding checks.

Additional Information: Must possess good communication and phone skills, computer skills, and ability to maintain confidentiality and be nonjudgmental.  Bilingual considered a plus.  10 to 15 hours per week Monday through Friday.

Office Assistant

Position Description: Maintain database of volunteers, process applications for new volunteers and process monthly reports from existing volunteers. Individual will schedule initial meetings for Big Friend, Little Friend and parent(s), and the Program Director. Position Description: Responsible for handling communication with our members through our e-newsletter, monthly Agenda printed newsletter, Facebook, Twitter, and other media. Exploration Agent

Position Description: Exploration Agents are responsible for working the front desk including operating cash register, completing daily receipt forms, welcoming and signing in visitors, making group reservations, scheduling birthday parties, ect.  Agents will assist in maintaining exhibits for safety and cleanliness, and perform light cleaning duties around the museum.  Agents will also play a large role in museum programming that includes the planning and leading of various activities within the museum and/or at special events.

Additional Information: Ability to use Microsoft Office and related software is necessary.  Knowledge of cash register procedures and/or retail experience is a plus.  Must be people oriented with good communication skills, along with self-directed, self-motivated and responsible.  Strong organizational and time management skills are a must.

Marketing Assistant

Position Description: Marketing Assistant is responsible for assisting the Programs Director and the Executive Director in marketing the museum in creative ways to increase attendance in visitors, and museum memberships.  Along with promoting the activities that take place within the museum and/or special events.  The Marketing Assistant will complete various tasks associated with promotions which include, but is not limited to, sending press releases, designing flyers/posters, maintaining social media sites, updating the website.  Marketing Assistant must be professional, friendly, outgoing, organized and creative.  Previous experience with promotions, marketing, and related computer software is a bonus.
