Teacher Education students are meeting community needs by being involved in numerous service opportunities in Kearney or in their home communities. Students are tutoring, working with youth in centers, serving as mentors, being companions to persons with disabilities or elderly, assisting teachers with at-risk students, helping at preschools, coaching, etc.

The UNK Service-Learning Community is a group of students, living on the same floor in a residence hall, who have a common interest and are dedicated to being involved in ongoing service projects. Students select service opportunities and join together in regular sessions to share and reflect on their projects. Special joint service projects are also a part of the Community's plans for participation.

Located in the College of Education Building, B 185, the Office for Service-Learning provides resource information about numerous opportunities for service-learning or volunteer connections in Kearney, the surrounding communities, or your hometown.

The Office uses an extensive database of information about agency/program needs and contacts, and serves as a referral connecting students, faculty, teachers and community.
