Rho Alpha Sigma: A Brief but Shining History
Rho Alpha Sigma was developed by a group of hall directors and an area coordinator at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. The organization was conceived created, and founded in the spring of 2002, culminating in the induction of the first six members of Rho Alpha Sigma in April 2002. The Greek letters Rho Alpha Sigma were chosen to correspond to Resident Advisor/Assistant Service. From its founding, four more chapters have joined the ranks of Rho Alpha Sigma.
In 2002, the first Rho Alpha Sigma, Alpha Chapter scholarship was awarded to a deserving Resident Advisor on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Since then, three additional $250 scholarships have been awarded to UNK staff members. Other chapters have been active in promoting the Resident Advisor/Assistant community on their campuses.
Rho Alpha Sigma has long range goals of developing a Founder's scholarship for deserving Rho Alpha Sigma members. Plans are also being initiated to create outstanding leadership awards by members and chapters. The input of all chapters is vital to the shaping of the future of Rho Alpha Sigma.
