Chemistry Major Program Suggestions

Following is the suggested community college program for students who plan to transfer to UNK for a B.S. in Chemistry. UNK degree programs include a B.A. Chemistry Option; B.S. Professional Chemist Comprehensive (ACS Certified degree); B.S. Chemistry Comprehensive, Biochemistry Emphasis (ACS Certified degree, recommended for health professional students seeking a rigorous certified degree); B.S. Chemistry Comprehensive, Business/Sales Emphasis (ACS Certified degree); B.S. Chemistry Comprehensive, Health Sciences Emphasis (recommended for Health Professional students); and the B.S.E. Chemistry 7-12 Teaching Subject Endorsement.

In the following table:

           *GS means General Studies Courses
**Only two semesters of calculus and analytical geometry are required for a comprehensive major. Only the professional chemistry major requires three semesters of calculus.  Chemistry Comprehensive, Health Science requires only 1 semester of calculus plus 1 semester of statistics.
***Introductory courses in chemistry and physics assume a high school course prerequisite and the recommended physics courses are calculus based.
****Pre-professional health students may wish to take a full year of anatomy & physiology instead of physics during sophomore year.
