Academics
The UNK Greek community offers a four-year, comprehensive learning community that stresses academic success and personal development. Your fraternity brothers offer something that is unavailable in any other university housing option - ACCOUNTABILITY and EXPERIENCE. The brothers you live with can help you with every aspect of your academic career, from choosing classes and professors to helping you understand what you might expect on an upcoming exam. Chapters with living units on campus have comfortable areas of study, computer labs with high speed Internet, and designated quiet hours. The proof is in the results... Greeks exceed the grade point averages of their peers on this campus and nationally. Chapters also provide scholarship funding based on GPA and chapter involvement.
Philanthropic and Community Service Opportunities
The Greek fraternities at UNK prides themselves on the selfless service it provides to the community. Each fraternity on campus has a signature fundraiser or event they host every year. Chapters sell tickets and raise money for causes and organizations such as the Nebraska Kidney Association, the American Red Cross, the Kearney Community Food Bank, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and much more.
Leadership
Fraternities at the University of Nebraska - Kearney have a rich tradition and proven track record for cultivating and developing leaders. You will find fraternity members as student government and student organization leaders, athletes, and peer mentors/tutors. Opportunities abound to develop your leadership skills. Furthermore, within each fraternity chapter there are elected positions that provide you with an opportunity to develop skills in interpersonal communication, planning, budgeting/accounting, risk management, programming, and much more. Every chapter strives to help their members become exemplary student leaders and invaluable assets to our local community.
Social Development
The University of Nebraska - Kearney is a large campus with a diverse student body. Fraternities at UNK empower their members to become comfortable living on a large campus and to become an important part of campus life and activities. In addition, fraternities give you an opportunity to create lifelong bonds with your college friends and enriches your individual social development. Some social events include mixers and bar-b-ques, formal dances, and great themed-functions on-and-off campus. The ultimate goal of the Greek fraternity community is to develop friendships.
