A UNK Greek Affairs Tradition
2013 Sorority Spring Community Service Project
Service to others and the community is part of everyday life in the Greek community at the University of Nebraska - Kearney. Our fraternities and sororities are generous fundraisers and service providers, annually giving more than $60,000 and 18,000 service hours to local and national causes and non-profit organizations. In particular, each (inter)national fraternity and sorority have a specific, signature philanthropic event which is encouraged by their (inter)national office. Furthermore, all of our fraternities and sororities are involved with, and organize, the two largest student-run philanthropic events on campus: The Big Event and St. Jude's Up 'Til Dawn. Combined, these two events are one of the largest community service projects in the state of Nebraska!
Community service and philanthropy are a core value of the UNK Greek community. In addition, the Greek community believes in supporting one another's service events - therefore, fraternity/sorority members not only participate in their own events, but also attend each others! Below a small sampling of community service and philanthropic events hosted by fraternities and sororities at the University of Nebraska - Kearney.
