A UNK Greek Affairs Tradition

The 2013 Spring Greek Scholarship Awards Ceremony
Scholarship is the first priority and one of the highest values for all Greek organizations at the University of Nebraska - Kearney. Each chapter places a sting emphasis on cultivating an atmosphere conducive to high academic performance. Each fraternity and sorority has a minimum grade-point-average (GPA) requirement to become a initiated member and to remain in good standing and hold leadership positions within their chapter. Members are encouraged to strive for scholastic excellence through incentive and reward programs; peer mentors and tutors; study hours; and educational workshops pertaining to academic improvement, test-taking strategies, study skills, time management, and resume building. In addition, fraternity and sorority faculty advisors offer support and advising expertise and Greek chapter housing provide academic study rooms to its members.
Perhaps one of the most motivating factors to excel academically is the recognition
a fraternity or sorority member receives for excelling from not only their individual chapter,
but the UNK Greek community as a whole. At the beginning of every semester, UNK Greeks gather together for the All-Greek Scholarship Awards Ceremony to honor and recognize members who
performed exemplary work in the classroom are recognized AND the chapters who have the
highest chapter GPA are revealed, which is a very prestigious honor
within in our Greek Community! Awards are also given to chapters who
have the highest new member GPA and the most improved chapter.
