Start Here with Your New iPad

Turn on your iPad

  1. Hold down the Sleep/Wake in upper right top corner. You may need to plug in your iPad if battery is low.
  2. Slide arrow at bottom
  3. Tap English, Tap Next
  4. Tap United States, Tap Next

Connecting your iPad to WiFi on campus using UNK Secure

  1. From Settings, tap UNKSecure
  2. Enter your full UNK email address and EASI password. i.e. username@lopers.unk.edu
  3. Tap Accept
  4. Tap Next
  5. Follow the wizard and Tap Next after each selection
    1. Tap Enable Locations Services, Tap Next
    2. Tap Set up as New iPad, Tap Next
    3. Tap Skip This Step(you will set up an Apple ID if you do not have one when you get into the iPad), Tap Skip again.
    4. Terms and Conditions: Read and then Tap Agree in lower right hand corner. Tap Agree again.
    5. Tap Use Siri, Tap Next
    6. Tap Automatically Send, Tap Next
    7. Tap Start Using iPad

Setup your Apple ID and Password

You can set up an Apple account with a credit card or without.
  1. Tap Use Existing Apple ID or Create an Apple ID
  2. If asked, Tap OK
  3. Follow the wizard for creating a new account
  • We suggest that you use an email account that you will always use as your Apple ID and Password. For example, a current Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail address. Tap Next
  • You will have the option to enter a Credit Card or select None if you do not want to use a Credit Card.
  • A verification email will be sent to you

Do I need an Apple account to download free apps or to purchase apps?

Yes, you need an Apple ID account to download both free and purchased apps to your iPad.

You can set up an Apple account with a credit card or without.

Second, tap on this link to install the free "UNK iPad Users Guide" on your iPad.
This book is a great guide to get started with your iPad at UNK. It includes how to setup your Loper mail, what Apps to install for class, information about the iPad rental program at UNK and so much more.

Students: Instructions for setting up LoperMail on your iPad

Now you are ready to set up your LoperMail on your iPad or iPhone
  1. Tap Settings
  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  3. Tap Add Account
  4. Tap Exchange
  5. Enter your information including your full LoperMail address i.e. students@lopers.unk.edu
  6. Enter your EASI password
  7. Enter a description. i.e. UNK Email
  8. Tap Next
  9. Tap Save
  10. Tap your Mail App and you are ready to go. Note you can easily add other email accounts that you may have using the same steps above.

On your iPad, install these free Apps by tapping link

  1. Blackboard Mobile Learn - Use the Blackboard App on your iPad rather than the web browser Safari.  The Blackboard Mobile Learn App allows you to add content from Dropbox or Google Drive as well as video or photos from your iPad.
  2. Dropbox - Dropbox is cloud storage and syncs between your iPad, Mac or PC.  Students can upload files saved in Dropbox in the Blackboard Mobile Learn App.  Note: Sensitive Information CANNOT be stored in online (cloud) file hosting providers.
  3. Google Drive - Google Drive is cloud storage.  Students can upload files saved in Google Drive in the Blackboard Mobile Learn App. Note: Sensitive Information CANNOT be stored in online (cloud) file hosting providers.
  4. iBooks - iBooks is an amazing way to download and read books.  Many UNK faculty are using iBooks in their classes.
  5. UNK Mobile - UNK in the palm of your hand.  Find out how to get around campus, stay up-to-date with the latest campus news, and more.
  6. iTunesU - Some UNK faculty are using iTunesU in their courses.   iTunesU has the largest digital catalog of free educational content.
  7. YouTube - Note: Sensitive Information CANNOT be stored in online (cloud) file hosting providers.
  8. YouTube Capture - Start recording in a snap, then edit and share videos of any length right from your iPad.  Stitch together an unlimited number of clips as you build your story.  Note: Sensitive Information CANNOT be stored in online (cloud) file hosting providers.
  9. Evernote - Evernote is an easy-to-use, free app that helps you remember everything across all devices you use.  Stay organized, save your ideas, take notes in class, and improve your productivity.  Note: Sensitive Information CANNOT be stored in online (cloud) file hosting providers.
  10. Office 365 - Word, Excel and PowerPoint - Go to "How do I get it on my phone or tablet"?  The UNK Microsoft Student Advantage program allows all UNK students to have Office 365 free on their iPad, Mac or PC.  Note: Sensitive Information CANNOT be stored in online (cloud) file hosting providers.

Install Puffin, which is another web browser to play flash video on your iPad.
